How to Get Your Teeth Straightened Without Anyone Knowing

How to Get Your Teeth Straightened Without Anyone Knowing

A lot has changed. Not so very long ago, if you wanted a straight smile, you had to endure months and months of metal in your mouth. With brackets cemented to your teeth and a stiff archwire connecting them, things weren’t comfortable, and brushing and flossing were a challenge. But that wasn’t most people’s biggest complaint.

Traditional metal braces are highly visible

The good news is that you no longer need to walk around advertising to the world that you’re working on your smile. Thanks to the latest clear aligners, you can get your dream smile without anyone knowing.

Our dentistry team offers two types of aligners — Invisalign® and ClearCorrect® — here at Livonia Family Smiles to help you discreetly work toward your dream smile.

How Invisalign and ClearCorrect work

Traditional braces used brackets connected by an archwire to gradually shift your teeth to their proper positions. Invisible aligners work similarly, but instead of a bunch of metal, they use clear plastic trays that are molded to fit snugly on your teeth.

When you choose aligners, the process starts with a scan of your mouth here in our office. We use this data to create both your first set of aligners and your plan of care.

Once your aligners are ready, you wear them over your teeth. The first set gently nudges your teeth toward their ideal positions. You wear those aligners for a week or two (as prescribed by our team), then you swap them out for the next aligners in the series. These fit over your slightly shifted teeth, moving them even closer to the perfect alignment.

By the time you get to the last aligner, your teeth should be straight, giving you a beautiful smile.

Benefits of invisible aligners

Of course, one of the biggest perks of aligners like ClearCorrect and Invisalign is their discreet nature. Because the aligners are made out of clear plastic, they aren’t obvious the way traditional braces are. In fact, the aligners get trimmed to precisely match your gum line to give you the most natural, invisible look possible.

Beyond that, though, there are some other perks to consider. For starters, the aligners are removable. That means you can take them out to eat whatever you want. You can also remove them for big presentations, to play sports, to go on dates, or whenever else you choose. You only need to wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day, so you have flexibility.

Plus, since your aligners are removable, you can brush and floss normally. There’s no need to navigate around brackets or wires to keep your teeth clean.

Finally, because the aligners are created in a custom series for you, your straight smile comes with fewer trips to our office. While traditional braces require regular archwire adjustments, the invisible aligner series ensures you keep progressing on your own.

We’ll schedule periodic check-ins with you, but you won’t need to worry about an excessive amount of time at our office to get your ideal smile.
