If you’ve recently lost a tooth, your dentist may recommend a dental bridge to restore your smile. Like the name suggests, a dental bridge “bridges” the gap in your smile left by a missing tooth. To learn if you’re a candidate for a tooth bridge, call our office today to schedule your appointment.
What Are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is comprised of a false tooth anchored in place by crowns on both sides. To prepare your teeth for the dental bridge procedure, your dentist will need to remove enamel from adjacent teeth so the crowns can fit over top. We’ll then take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab. It’ll take several weeks for your tooth restoration to be made, which is why we’ll fit a temporary dental bridge to protect your smile in the meantime.
When you return for your second appointment, your permanent dental bridge will be ready. Your dentist will make sure the bridgework is the right color, shape, and size so it looks natural with the rest of your smile. Unlike partial dentures, you don’t have to worry about your tooth bridge slipping out of place because it is anchored by surrounding teeth.
Our Livonia dentists will be able to explain your tooth replacement options (including dental bridges) during your consultation. To schedule your appointment with us, call Livonia Family Smiles at (734) 525-6100.
