A dental crown (also called a “tooth cap” by our patients) is used to restore a tooth to its natural strength and appearance. You may be a candidate for a dental crown if your tooth was made fragile by a large cavity, fracture, or root canal. A front tooth crown can also be used to cover discoloration.
Types Of Dental Crowns
CEREC Same Day Crowns
Our same day dentists can use CEREC to design, make, and place your tooth crown in one appointment. A CEREC crown covers and protects your tooth by sealing out plaque and bacteria. Since your CEREC crown will be made of ceramic, it’ll match the natural color of your tooth enamel.
Procera Ceramic Crowns
If you have metallic crowns, our dentists will be more than happy to replace them with those made of ceramic. If your dentist recommends a Procera dental crown, you won’t have to worry about compromising aesthetics for strength. A ceramic crown is strong enough to withstand daily wear and tear so you can smile with confidence.
Unlike with CEREC, it’ll take two appointments to plan and place your Procera crown. During your first appointment, we’ll remove enough tooth enamel to make room for your crown. We’ll then take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab. When you return for your second appointment, we’ll check the size, fit, and color of your dental crown before placing it over your tooth.
